Dancing on the Sun

For Sheppard’s “Dancing on the Sun” music video, I was given the role of sole VFX Artist. My task was to take sketch designs and model, and animate the alien machine orbs that appear throughout the second half of the video. The music video was shot using 16mm film so it was an interesting challenge making sure the CG footage seamlessly fit with the analogue footage.

During pre-production for Sheppard’s project, I created a test render preview for the director to demonstrate how the orb machine opens up in a mechanical way. This preview showcased the intricate animation of gears and components moving in harmony to reveal the inner workings of the orb. The goal was to visualise the detailed mechanical unfolding process, ensuring it conveyed the intended sense of complexity and futuristic design before final production. I’m also just really happy how this animation turned out and wanted to share.
